By the time Germany prepared their troops for action in 1934, the Wehrmacht started transforming civil vehicles to be used by them. This is the way the Krupp Protze was selected. This truck distinctive features were especially technical. It offered independent suspension, four cylinder air-cooled engine, and the most important, its versatility. The Krupp saw action at almost all theatres.
The old Tamiya kit, ref 43510, is the only option to achieve this model in 1/35.
The “new” reference 35259, uses the same assembly chassis/cabin with a different cargo box. The original mould dates from 1978, that’s why one should expect certain omissions or even mistakes that can’t easily be solved, in a word, a mediocre kit. However, this kit surprised me, with its high quality, superb!!.
Details are clearly defined, it’s accurate in size and proportions and although you’ll always find some things that might be improved, it can be assembled straight from the box with no problems.
So, I decided to build it straight from the box and to devote all my effort to the painting job. Nevertheless, at the time the building procedure was going on, I found myself detailing it much more than I thought I would.
Assembly and detailing
I divided the kit in two groups: on the one hand, chassis and cabin, and on the other, the cargo box.
There’s not much to do. Just to detail the rear suspension and the steering linkage system.
Here’s the first weak aspect, the kit doesn’t provide them!. So, let’ s get down to it. Using 0,5 mm plastic rod and 0,2 mm plasticard, I scratchbuilt two 2,5 mm circular shaped pedals to represent the clutch and brake, and a rectangular one 4 x 1,5 mm to represent the throttle.
