The aircraft shown here is the AE-020, one of the few two-seater aircrafts of the type. This machine was built by Grumman Aerospace Corp on May 5th 1970. Among the different destinies while seeing service for the US Army, it saw action in 50 reconnaissance missions in the Persian Gulf at “Desert Shield” and “Desert Storm” this is why 5 camels were painted on the left door of the front wheel well, decoration that is used nowadays when seeing service in Argentina.

After having been withdrawn from the US Army, it was transferred to the Argentine Army arriving to the country on December 24th 1992 piloted by Lieutenant colonel Carlos Spika. It was assigned to the 603 squadron for pilots’ training purposes. Then, it was destined to the 601 Squadron, first operative unit of this airplane.
I started from the Roden Mohawk OV-IB/OV-1C, which was converted to the OV-ID version used by the Argentine Army
This is quite a good kit The aircraft appears dimensionally correct with accurate details. Fit is perfect, the fuselage show no problems of fit in spite of its length.
The clear parts have a particular shape, especially its windshield, but following the instructions coming from the manufacturers, there were no difficulties of fit.
As to mention some weak points, I should say the thickness of the recessed lines which are too wide and I had to sand all the aircraft surface to get them narrower. Another point to mention is the SPLASH which has small parts, anyway they can be used without problem. Plastic has some defects such as hollows with different colorations.
Converting the OV-IB to OV-ID
It seems that when accomplishing this version, the manufacturer had already planned to put OV-ID version on the market, since according to the building drawings, some parts are not useful for this model but for the D version instead, the new Roden release. I refer to some antennas, blade ones, and especially the nose in clear plastic for the cameras.
