On February 2000 I decided that it was about time to have a personal "page" in Internet, that page was meant to show others my personal vision about plastic modeling, that is how Mario's Modeler Site was born. During the next month I discovered a certain editorial vocation in me, don't get me wrong, I don't mean that I was doing it very well, it is just that I began to fall in love with the idea of becoming a real editor, writing notes and articles, as well as receiving and sharing ideas about modeling.
Internet is a very wide place and we all have our own place in it, if we so want it. In fact, I'm sure that there are other sites like MMS, or even better, which I visit quite often; I also think that we must support personal sites, there are many and very good.
As time went by, we kept working and improving until the help began to arrive from other modelers around the world. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart, and share with them all what we receive every day, the satisfaction of having new friends and the pleasure of getting on with a project that we deeply love.
All of you know the names of MMS collaborators, their names and e-mail addresses are in our pages. To all these friends, and to the people who read our magazine month after month, we send our personal affection.
I want to give my personal recognition to a person who, without any personal interest, has been giving his help, and along the months, he has become a basic part in the creation of the notes and articles which we all enjoy, I am referring to my friend Jose Antonio Solbes Shang.
I also want to mention Peter Radcliffe, whose knowledge and help have allowed MMS to introduce the 1/43 scale.
Since the very first moment, I always had the idea that a publishing effort must have a line of thinking and working, so, since the very first moment, we decided that our project wouldn't be looking for any commercial interest, although we really need the help of advertising in order to cover the cost of putting 40Mb every month on the web. Besides, we need sample kits for our collaborators, when the working plans so asks for it. We haven't had much echo on this respect, although we don't loose our hopes. At this moment, I want to send a special recognition to Mr. Scott T. Hard, owner of HobbyLink Japan, who has perfectly understood our objectives and has supported us since the very beginning, thank you Scott!
Many people have asked me about what it is that I expect from MMS, and my answer is always the same, I expect everything, like all of us expect from a son. However, I've permanently rejected the idea of selling CDs or any other form of merchandising the contents in MMS; that is why, since a few months ago, we have done what it has been a great effort for us and hired the services of a server in the USA, in order to put there all our back issues for everybody to visit them.
What's in the future for MMS?, new projects, we are working on them already, in order to cover more aspects of modeling, always counting on the invaluable help of our friends the modelers around the world.
For how long is MMS going to stay on the web?, that depends on you our friendly readers, and on the efforts of all of our collaborators who build models and send us pictures and articles; yours is the future of MMS. As for us, we will stay for as long as God will keep helping us.
It is believed that a year in Internet equals five years of a person; so, I think that MMS has "grown up" enough to walk on its own, it doesn't need a "father" anymore, so from this month on, MMS will be known as Modeler Site.
I send you all, readers and modelers, a friendly hug and I thank life for giving me the opportunity of giving life to this wonderful intellectual adventure. |
