A client recently acquired a Lotus 24 and commissioned a 1/12 model of the car. This example has over the years been ‘modernised’ to comply with modern safety requirements with higher roll over bars and fire equipment, seat belts etc but otherwise is pretty much unchanged since the early sixties. The car original was raced by Reg Parnell Racing, a privateer entrant from that period and is still painted in the Parnell colours of dark blue, red noseband and white wheels. It is fitted with the 1.5 BRM engine.
As no kit in this (or any other) scale has to my knowledge ever existed it was clear this had to be a scratch build and I set about drawing up, with the kind assistance of "Classic Team Lotus" the necessary plans and drawing up all the tiny items which would have to be photo etched. Luck or divine intervention arrived in the shape of the recently released Lotus 25 in 1/12 scale by MG Model Plus. As previously mentioned, the ‘25 used the same suspension, wheels and many other parts as the ‘24 so I ordered two kits from MG Models. Now, I thought at the time, I only have to make the chassis and tweak the common parts supplied with the ‘25 kit…. You know life is not that simple don’t you…
