Blignaut Lucky Strike Racing: Alex Blignaut was the organizer of the South African GP’s and sometime racer. He founded his own team “Blignaut Lucky Strike Racing” in 1973 and used the Tyrrell 004 to run during the FIA F1 Championship and the South African National F1 Championship. In 1974 the Tyrrell 004 ran in the Embassy livre. The young driver Eddie Keizan was on the wheel for Alex Blignaut.

 


History of the Tyrrell-Ford 004

1971 to 1972: The Tyrrell 004 was built for Jackie Stewart and was completed by the Tyrrell Racing Organisation in October of 1971. The 004 was a works car through the 1972 FIA Formula 1 World Championship Season, and then sold to Alex Blignaut of South Africa.

1972 to 1977: Alex Blignaut of South Africa purchased the Tyrrell 004 from the Tyrrell Racing Organisation for use by Eddie Keizan in the 1973 and 1974 South African National Formula 1 Championship as well as the 1973 and 1974 FIA Formula One South African Grand Prix. The 004 was sold by Mr. Blignaut in 1977 to Stephen Griswold of Berkeley, California, USA 2000 to Present: John B. Dimmer of Tacoma, Washington, USA, purchased Tyrrell 004 at the Christie’s International Motor Cars Auction at Pebble Beach, California, USA on August 20, 2000.

The Model

I used to build my model the Tamiya’s Tyrrell-Ford and decals from Studio 27 . The model can be built following Tamiya´s instructions, only the rear wing must be modified, see photo.
