I decided to scratchbuild this plane after seeing the scale drawings by Mike Fletcher in his web site: The Nieuport Pages. I sent an E-mail to him and he kindly sent me pictures and larger resolution scale drawings. Once I enlarged the plans to 1/48, I noticed how big the plane was (see the picture with the Dragon's 1/48 Fokker Dr.I).

Construction

Fuselage

I cut the four sides of the fuselage from the scale drawings and I glued them over a 1 mm plasticard sheet.

I cut and assembled only the right, upper and lower sections to be able to work with on the interior, but as I used a thin plasticard, I had to add internal bulkheads to the fuselage to achieve the necessary degree of sturdiness, just like the real plane!

The interior was completely scratchbuilt, using plasticard, heat stretched sprue and cooper wire except for the seatbelts and the throttle control levers, they came from a Tom's Modelworks etched set.

Although some interior details are the result of guessing, most of the interior is based in drawings and a few (bad) pictures. The instruments (oil pressure gauge and compass) were made using Corel Draw and Reheat bezels.

The seats were made out of plasticard with the help of Corel Draw, for the cushions I used epoxy putty. The pilot’s seat includes the control column and the rudder pedals on its structure, so, I made them using stretched sprue and cooper wire.
