Modelers released the J199 10 years ago. I got this kit from HobbyLink Japan after seeing a great build from Alex Kung in Canada. I waited for 10 years before I built it. Unfortunately, the kit is for early season, so some modification were necessary.

Team Jordan is one of the last privateer F1 team that won F1 races in the last decade. Jordan did particular well in season 99. Frentzen was title contender all the way until European GP where his car broke down. Imagining beating the power house like McLaren Mercedes and Ferrari would be quite cool.

Frentzen won 2 races in 99 season, French GP and Italian GP. I chose to build the Italian GP version because it had the tobacco sponsorship and unique rear wing. (Yes F1 seems not right without tobacco.

Kit box

Resin body and white metal stuff. The front wing mount is too wide and need to be modified.

Cut the mount into halves and made sure it flushed with the body. Then cut the mount to appropriate length.. Provided one is way too long.

Filled the gap with epoxy putty and re-scribed the panel lines.

Glued the airbox on and used the power tool to deepen the opening.

I did a lot of testing fitting. First, glued the front wing up with krazy glue (will take it apart later.) Then put on different components to find out what could stay and what needed to be thrown away.

Front wishbone suspension arms had to be thrown away. Replaced it with Tamiya F310B ones.

Test fit the new arms. They looked much better.
