Brach Models, who is known for their wide range of conversion sets and full resin kits of almost unknown variants and models of World War II tanks, recently released another great product. This time they brought up a set of Italian Assault Guns, one of them is the Semovente M42 75/18, which I am going to build here.

It was an Italian self-propelled gun that was created by merging the 75mm Obice da 75/18 modello 34 gun on the chassis of a M13/40 or M14/41 tank. They were intended to be an Italian counterpart to the successful German Stug III. They first served in the Italian army and after they surrendered the vehicles went over to the German military to be used until the end of the war.
I decided to build one of these late Semoventes in German use over a little vignette. I found a picture where one of those tanks were slipped off from a street, down a little wall and got stuck. I used this as a reference for the upcoming progress.

Building

In the beginning I was thinking about the vignette and which scene I would want to create. I decide to build a little vignette where a Semovente slipped off the side of a street. Therefore the base was made of Styrofoam by cutting leftovers and gluing them together with white glue.

Simple sidewalls were made using 0.5mm plasticard and adjusting them on the sides with the help of white glue. Don’t try to use CA-glue on the sidewalls, this will dissolve the Styrofoam.

In the following image the lower hull of the Semovente was already assembled. The interior of the vehicle is very nicely detailed which will mostly be seen, because the hatches will be assembled open.
