Since it has become a bit quiet at Tamiya headquarters regarding the launch of new 1:20 F1 models, it is nice to see that manufacturers like Fujimi and Hasegawa have picked up the gauntlet releasing new F1 models on a regular base. The Hasegawa kit we will be using here is very well detailed, which means it is possible to build a fine, beautiful looking model building it 'straight from the box’.

But there is more: Hasegawa decided to release a superb upgrade kit, consisting of a set photo- etched parts such as wing end plates, disc brakes and radiators, but also including realistic looking machine-turned intake trumpets and protection mesh for the intakes. This allows the more experienced modeler to upgrade this model to an even higher level, comparable to the 1/12 Tamiya model of the Ferrari 312T.

Thanks to this upgrade kit everyone can decide for himself whether he opts for the standard version or the more complex version. A great idea.

Getting started

The model we are building here, representing the 1975 Monaco Grand Prix winning 312T bears the chassis No. 023.

First I dryfit the monocoque with masking tape. The parts are not chromed which saves us the job of stripping them, since this would be a wrong color anyway. It’s always nice to notice that the kit designers think ahead in favor of their builders.
