The Schneider CA-1 was the first operative combat tank of the world developed in France in 1916. In April 1917 it would be used in large number at Berry-au-Bac during the infamous Nivelle Offensive. This article shows how I built the late CA-1 which was used in Spain after the First World War ended. For this modification, I used the FCModeltips conversion and decals.

Spain bought six Schneider CA-1 tanks to use at the Morocco war in 1922, some years later 4 of them had survived and sent to Madrid where they remained unused until in 1936 began the Spanish civil war.

The tanks that came form Africa received some minor changes; a gunhole at the front and another at the back, front light changed and added armor at the front made of a sewer cover.
I wanted to make two of the models suggested in the decals set, the one in Morocco with the girls inside the numbers and this one I finally choose, one of the CA-1 used in Madrid against the nationalists at the beginning of the war.

The following picture is a photomontage I made with a Madrid park photograph as the background.

To represent this tank I used parts from the resin set and the FCModeltips decals I designed myself. To adapt the Hobby Boss kit I had to build the back sections that enlarge the tank, the reshaped exhaust and the other modifications, they were specific of the Spanish model called M-16.

The set includes the necessary parts to build the late standard French CA-1, that saw service in the Great War as well as the necessary parts for the Spanish version that includes the gun port, the manhole cover armor, a new front grille and a rear door to replace the one supplied with the kit, with a window to shoot a gun from the interior.
