From 1945 up to now, three basic Main Battle Tanks (MBT) were designed by Japan. These three vehicles were finely represented by Tamiya, whose models, in spite of having been manufactured more than twenty years ago (Type 61 and Type 74), are magnificent, even for the present day standards. The Type 90, belonging to the last generation of Tamiya kits, represents the state-of- the art from the brand.

Several aftermarket manufacturers have produced kits for those who want to superdetail even more these three vehicles, or for those who just want to add some complement to make the model look different from the others.

Here below, you’ll find not only a list with the most common and useful options for the average skill modeller, but also some brief comments about every kit manufactured by Tamiya and other brands.

This article aims at offering the modeller, a clear vision about these vehicles, the availability of the kits, and two building reports, beginning the first part, with the Type 90, and the second with the Type 74.
